What To Expect
- Dorland is a quiet place, and residents are encouraged to work independently and enjoy the serene natural surroundings. Residents may contact each other by invitation to hike or for get-togethers.
- Cottages are stocked with starter basics. See the Residency Guidelines for more information. Some residents like to bring additional supplies or purchase supplies in town.
- Bring your own food and drink.
- Dorland's water source is a spring, which is regularly tested and deemed safe for drinking.
- Pack sturdy shoes if you plan to enjoy the trails.
- If you plan to use the wood stove, bring gloves to gather firewood.
- A washing machine and clotheslines are available upon request.
Transportation
- Renting a car is recommended, especially for extended stays, as there is much to explore in the surrounding area. If you don't rent at the airport, some residents rent after arrival at Avis , which seems affordable and is fairly close to Dorland.
- Temecula Air Shuttle provides a reasonable shuttle service between San Diego Airport and Temecula. For the most affordable option, select "Rideshare Shuttle." See this link for the shuttle from Ontario Airport or LAX. The shuttle can take you to Dorland (for a small extra charge) or to the "Central Drop-off" in Temecula.
- Greyhound Bus and FlixBus services are also available.
- Uber and Lyft service the area.
When You Arrive
- Check-in time is 2 pm.
- We strongly recommend that you arrive during DAYLIGHT HOURS.
- Text or call 909-227-0345 a day before your arrival and when you are en route, providing an approximate arrival time.

- Parking is available throughout the retreat, and each cottage has its own designated parking.
- The key to your cottage is inside. Lock the cottage if you leave.
During Your Stay
- Dorland has many paths, trails, and ponds. As you explore the trails or relax outdoors, you might encounter some of the local wildlife. Remember to observe from a distance and allow them their space. Please stay on the trails. We coexist peacefully with our "neighborhood friends."
- The "Meet & Greet" (Wine & Bite) gatherings are typically held on Friday evenings from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the Pavilion near the Community Arts Center.
- At sunset on Tuesday evenings, residents are invited to gather at Sunset Point (near Horton Cottage) for a short meet and greet.
- The Jane Culp Studio, located in the Community Arts Center, is available for individual visual artists by request. The Library (in the same building) is available for browsing anytime or as an alternative work area by request.
