How To Apply For Residency

Wait

It takes 1-3 weeks to process an application depending on how quickly your references respond. We cannot approve applications without two references.

Prepare BEFORE You Apply: 

Before you apply for residency, you should have the following information ready: 

  • Your professional bio: 200 words or less written in 3rd person. 
  • A recent photo to use with your bio on our Artists In Residency Page.
  • Emergency contact information: Name, phone number, email address.

  • Work Samples as applicable:

    • Writing: 2-3 PDFs (Approximately 15 pages in total)
    • Visual Art: 3 jpgs
    • Music: 2-3 mp3s

  • Provide two professional references (Name, email and how you are acquainted). 

    • IMPORTANT: References are a critical part of the approval process. Applications will not be approved without references. Please let your references know in advance to expect an email from Dorland Mountain Arts requesting a letter of reference.


After you apply:


Once you have submitted your application, you will be redirected to pay your application fee. Your application will be sent to our Application Review Committee after your application fee has been received. 

You will receive an email once our Application Review Committee has fully reviewed your application and a decision has been reached.

If you were referred by a Dorland Resident, please tell us how so we can thank them. If you chose "other" please explain. 
Your cooperation in providing demographic information would be greatly appreciated by Dorland. While this information is not mandatory, it aids us in gauging the inclusivity of our programs. Please be aware that demographic data may be shared with potential funding agencies upon their inquiry. Rest assured that only your responses to the following questions will be shared, and they will not affect any decisions regarding your residency application or subsequent processes.
If I am selected for residency, I give permission for you to photograph me during my work (at a mutually agreed time), or to use any photos I submit for the marketing of Dorland. I agree to the publication of these images and a quote in print and online to promote Artist Residencies at Dorland. You may also feature my photograph, bio, and/or a quote on Dorland's social media platforms.
