Carol Bajen-Gahm is a mixed media painter from Massachusetts who moved to Newfoundland Canada in 2003 after attending a residency in Pouch Cove. She now works in her seaside studio in Torbay. In 2009 R&F Paints of Kingston, NY equipped her studio to teach encaustic painting and she became an at-large instructor for them. Living by the open Atlantic, she has learned about the raw power and fierce beauty of the natural environment, and in her work she invites nature to join in the dance, using some found materials not necessarily considered beautiful, mixing the erratic with the intentional, to make layers that end up as interesting textures to create an atmosphere that comes together and breathes together. Influenced by John Cage, the element of change plays a large part in her work. Carol has a master's degree in jazz composition from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and occasionally writes arrangements for musical groups. She is represented by the Christina Parker Gallery in St. John's, NL, and the Sivarulrasa Gallery in Almonte, Ontario. She had solo shows in both galleries in 2024. Her work is collected internationally.
