Lisa Kaufman is an independent editor and book publishing consultant. Her clients include Aevitas Creative Management, Basic Books, Bold Type Books, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Running Press, and Seal Press, as well as authors under contract to HarperCollins, Little Brown, Oxford University Press, Penguin Press, and other publishers. In 2022 she was a finalist in prescriptive nonfiction for the American Society of Journalist & Authors Andy Award for outstanding book collaboration Previously, Lisa was for 17 years marketing director and senior editor for the nonfiction trade book publisher PublicAffairs. Before that, she was senior manager of promotion for Viking Penguin, where she also spent four years as an editor; assistant to the associate publisher of Random House; and assistant to writer James A. Michener. Lisa taught at The Writers Studio in New York City for ten years. She served on the board of Epiphany magazine, and has been a fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts . An excerpt from her memoir-in-progress was longlisted in CRAFT Magazine’s 2023 memoir excerpt & essay contest. A graduate of Wesleyan University and mother of two, Lisa lives in New York City and Lenox, MA.
