Sara Smallhouse is from Northern California and has a B.A. in Art History from UC Irvine. She returned to Chico to pursue her M.A. in Art History, graduating in 2015. She is currently faculty at Butte College.
Her interest in social practice art began through her museum work. The platform of social practice suits her experience, synthesizing her breadth of art historical knowledge, experience as a teacher, and curator. With artist Malinda Blank, they form Blankhouse Collaborative, exploring the institutional side of art by highlighting the power of labels and rejecting traditional roles of artists, curator, and viewer.
